Sunset in Montana is the story of Lafe Roberts, who grew up with Hank Carpenter, son of nortorious Road Agent leader and Sherrif, Henry Plummer. The story takes place in western Montana, in the 1880s. Lafe Roberts has been riding shotgun for a stageline for several years, but now he must quit so he can tend to business with his old aquaintance, Hank Carpenter, who has just been released from prison. Lafe owes his old acquaintance a little payback so as he awaits his arrival in Virgina City, Montana.
